Sometimes things get harder before they get easier…
Recently Rodger and I have been having some confidence issues. And I know how discouraging it can be to experience frustration and a lack of confidence, but for me?… knowing that I have grown so much as a rider and Rodger has so much potential keeps me running and striving to move on and keep at it. At our last show, the first show day we were having some slight issues. So with that, I took it as a chance to gain some experience with Rodger. Every right step earned him praise and a Likit treat 😉 on Sunday, I stepped into the ring with almost no expectations yet I came out with a third place ribbon in my first ever 2’6” derby and many other great placings throughout the day.
I think it’s so incredibly important to have a mindset that not everything is going to go perfect, especially when it comes to horses. I really enjoyed growing our partnership over our last show and I’m so thankful for the amount of support I have from my trainer, friends, family, and my amazing supporter, Likit, who really helped keep Rodger content this weekend!!
I’m a huge believer in setting goals for yourself, but I’ve learned that letting go a little can really help calm nerves and ensure you remember why you ride. Is it to win? Or is it because you love being around horses and you cherish this sport. I’m so happy that we had this show as it really opened up my eyes.
